What is the CGS Center for Training?

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Center for Training is the name for a community of catechists in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, which includes members Kate Collins of Arnold, MD and Amanda Messinger of McLean, VA, that offers training and/or assistant training in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). This training is conducted with the guidance and approval of the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.  CGS is an approach to the religious formation of children, three to twelve years of age, that is rooted in Sacred Scripture and Liturgy, and compatible with Montessori educational philosophy and principles.  This approach acknowledges the unique developmental and spiritual needs and capacities of the child.

"If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should, with patience and courage, seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe children."
